Work Study Program

Students from work study programThe Waterford Fire Department offers a Work Study program to junior and senior architecture, engineering and drafting students from local area high schools.  Students spend 8 - 10 hours per week at the fire station, in lieu of attending class,  preparing architectural drawings of business structures within Waterford.

They accompany the fire marshal and inspectors during fire safety inspections and study the architecture of buildings from a fire and life safety standpoint.  These drawings are prepared and entered into a database which can be quickly recalled in the event of a fire or other emergency.

Fire Department personnel can access these drawings and obtain detailed information pertaining to the building allowing them to more rapidly and accurately formulate rescue and fire-fighting strategy.
