On September 24, 2002, the Township dedicated its new Department of Public Works Building to James E. Seeterlin, a former Township Supervisor and Clerk, who was instrumental in establishing the foundation of the Township's current water and sewer system. In the 1960's James Seeterlin, despite the repeated threat of being recalled, formulated a plan to develop a municipal water and sewer system to service the Township. Mr. Seeterlin realized without such a system the community would not grow and prosper. Time has proven him right as the Township now has a municipal sewer system that provides service to the majority of the community and an independent water system that provides safe drinking water to thousands and thousands of Township residents.
To honor his leadership and foresight the Waterford Township Board of Trustees directed that its new Department of Public Works Building be named the James E. Seeterlin Department of Public Works Building. Sitting on the Township's 60 acre central campus site, located at Crescent Lake Road and Tubbs Road, the building has over 51,000 gross square feet of space to house its administrative, field, shop and garage operations. The new building replaced the three (3) oldest buildings on the campus and brought under one roof all of the Department of Public Works entities which include the Water and Sewer, Facilities and Operations, Administrative and Engineering divisions. The building was designed by Redstone and Associates of Southfield, Michigan and is of post modern design. The total cost of the project was approximately $10,000,000, with $8,000,000 coming from the Water and Sewer Fund and $2,000,000 coming from the General Fund.
