Compost and recycling
information can be
accessed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week by calling (248)
618-7589. Most waste haulers have a recycling component as part of
their business. Contact your waste
hauler for items collected, how to prepare them and collection schedules. Township Recycling On the 1st Saturday of
each month, a container is located in front of Township Hall for the
collection of Corrugated Cardboard, Magazines, and Paper Board (e.g. cereal
boxes, toothpaste boxes, generally most food and personal product packaging.
Must be free of food debris and dry.) Collection is from 9:00 AM
to 1:00 PM. If an official holiday falls on the 1st
Saturday of the month, collection will not occur and will resume
according to the established schedule. CAI Building Recycling The CAI Building at 5640 Williams Lake Road
has a recycle bin at the front west corner of their parking lot to collect
newspapers, magazines, catalogs, office paper, shredded paper (bagged) and junk
mail. Proceeds are based on paper weight collected per month and
allotted to the CAI Building Enhancement Fund for the Golden Age Club. Additional Recycling Resources Royal Oak Recycling has now opened a new facility in neighboring White Lake at 10320 Highland Road. COMPOST SITE CLOSED EFFECTIVE MONDAY, MAY 12, 2008. In December of 2007 the Michigan Legislature passed and the Governor signed into law Public Act 212 which mandates stringent and costly new requirements relative to the licensing, operation, maintenance and testing of compost disposal sites. As a result of these new requirements, mandated by Public Act 212, Waterford Township will be forced to suspend receiving branches and yard waste at the Township operated compost site, located on Hospital Road north of Cooley Lake Road, effective Monday May 12, 2008. In an effort to determine the full impact of Public Act 212 I have formed a joint committee consisting of a representative of the Waterford School District (owners of the property where the current compost site is located) as well as the Township’s Attorney, Facilities and Operations Superintendent, Environmental Coordinator and Engineering Director to prepare a study of the feasibility and costs of continuing to operate a compost disposal site in Waterford Township.
