Campfires in Waterford
are allowed, however a
Campfire Permit must be obtained from the fire department ahead
of time. The only
open burning allowed in the Township are campfires for recreational
purposes. Anyone found with a campfire
on their premises without a valid permit will be issued
a citation.
Campfire Permits can be obtained by filling out an online
application or by visiting the Fire Department Headquarters, 2495 Crescent Lake
Road, from 8:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Permits are valid for the entire year expiring on December 31st
and must be applied for by either the property owner or current
resident.
Everyone issued
a permit must comply with the following rules:
-
The
campfire must be at least 50 feet away from any building and
15 feet from any property line.
-
There
must be a garden hose available at all times.
-
No
burning is allowed when the wind is 15 MPH or more.
-
An
adult must supervise the campfire at all times.
-
The

-
The
campfire must be small (bushel basket size) in a small pit
(3 - 4 feet in diameter), and only seasoned wood can be

For
general information regarding campfires a 24-hour "Hot
Line" is available at (248) 618-7587. This
"Hot Line" will allow us to update the message in
case of burning restrictions due to changing weather
conditions, etc. For questions or concerns during
normal business hours please call (248) 673-0405.
-
The
person whose name appears on the permit is responsible for
all campfires at the location stated on the permit. If
the fire department responds to a complaint and there is a
violation of the rules, a citation may be issued.
-
The
permit must be readily available when burning a campfire.
Please
Note:
The above rules apply for manufactured recreational burning
receptacles with the exception that they do not need to
be 50 feet from any building. Carefully follow the

purchased.
