DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS OVERVIEW
The Department of
Public Works (DPW) is responsible for providing essential services in the areas
of water treatment and conveyance, wastewater collection, facilities management,
fleet management, cemetery operations and bike path management to enhance
Waterford's residents quality of life.
The DPW is comprised of the Water & Sewer and
Facilities & Operations Divisions. The DPW has a total of 60 full time
employees and an annual budget of approximately $15,000,000.
The Water and Sewer Division provides high quality potable water for
residential, commercial and industrial use including fire protection. The
system utilizes 11 sand filtration water treatment plants, over 350 miles of
water main, 3,500 water valves, 3,400 fire hydrants, and 2 elevated and 1 ground
storage tanks ranging from 0.75-6.0 Million Gallons. The water system
average day demand is approximately 8 Million Gallons Per Day with summertime
peaks exceeding 20 Million Gallons Per Day.
The Water and Sewer Division also collects and transports all wastewater from
properties connected to the sewer system. The system utilizes over 350
miles sanitary sewer main and 63 sewer pumping stations. The wastewater
flow is ultimately discharged into the Clinton-Oakland Interceptor Sewer system
and conveyed to the City of Detroit for Treatment.
The Facilities and Operations Division is responsible for the operation and
maintenance of 15 township-owned buildings, 54 acres of grounds, 230
vehicles, 41 miles of bike path, 5 cemeteries and a composting site.
The DPW
building was dedicated to former Supervisor and Clerk James E. Seeterlin who
was instrumental in developing
a municipal water and sewer system to service Waterford Township.
