Batteries can be a difficult item to recycle. Locations such as Best Buy have recycling available for rechargeable batteries, but not alkaline (single-use) batteries. One option is to purchase a kit to properly recycling single-use batteries:
The state of Michigan passed an electronics recycling law that requires manufactures to provide a takeback program for household and small business electronics. Many retail stores selling these items offer electronic recycling resources.
Paint comes in two forms: latex and oil-based. Latex paint is water-based. Once dried to a solid, it can be disposed of with your regular trash (check with your waste hauler for more information). Many options are available to expedite the drying process, including: mixing in kitty litter, oil dry or paint hardener. In addition, the lid can be removed, allowing the water to evaporate naturally.
Oil-based paint should be disposed of with a household hazardous waste collection company.
Household paint (latex and oil-based), along with other household stains, cleaners, solvents, chemicals, etc. are accepted at any NO HAZ collection event
Household appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers contain freon. The freon must be properly removed before these items can be recycled or disposed. Some retail stores offer haul away services for these items. In addition, Appliance Place offers a freon removal and haul away service. Contact them at 248-683-3397 for more information.
